E-TANDEM Consortium Advances Research at 5th General Assembly in Amsterdam

On 20 and 21 November 2024, the E-TANDEM consortium convened in Amsterdam for the 5th General Assembly meeting, hosted by FincoEnergies. The meeting brought together project partners from across Europe to assess progress, share insights, and align on the next steps in the mission to develop sustainable e-fuels through innovative catalytic processes.

The two-day meeting highlighted several critical aspects of the project, with focused discussions on:

  • Catalysts and Processes: Significant advancements were reported in the hybrid catalytic conversion of CO2 and water to higher-oxygenate e-fuels, a key pillar of the E-TANDEM approach. Researchers shared progress in optimizing catalytic materials and reaction pathways to enhance efficiency and output.
  • E-Fuel Characterisation and Compatibility: Partners provided updates on the analysis of the produced higher-oxygenate e-fuels, focusing on their chemical and physical properties and compatibility with existing energy systems, including engines and storage infrastructures.
  • Hybrid Catalytic Process Demonstration: The team reviewed the progress in scaling up the catalytic processes for demonstration purposes, bringing the project closer to its goal of validating the technology for real-world applications.
  • Socio-Economic and LCA Assessment: We explored the socio-economic implications of the E-TANDEM technologies and reviewed the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) findings. These insights will guide the project’s strategies for sustainability, policy alignment, and market introduction.
  • Dissemination and Exploitation Strategies: To maximize the impact of E-TANDEM, partners discussed ongoing efforts to disseminate findings, engage stakeholders, and prepare for the exploitation of the project outcomes.

The meeting also provided an opportunity for in-depth collaboration, ensuring that the work packages remain aligned and that the consortium continues to operate as a cohesive team.

A special thanks to FincoEnergies for hosting the assembly in Amsterdam and for their valuable contributions to the project. Their support ensured a productive and inspiring environment for this crucial gathering.

As the E-TANDEM project progresses, these advancements bring us closer to creating sustainable, higher-oxygenate e-fuels that can play a vital role in the transition to a low-carbon energy future. Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this journey!
