OWI Science for Fuels gGmbH
Organisation Introduction
OWI Science for Fuels gGmbH is an independent and non-profit research institution affiliated to the RWTH Aachen University. In cooperation with partners from industry and research, OWI researches and develops concepts and technologies in the fields of energy-efficient use of liquid conventional and alternative fuels and innovative efficiency technologies.
Why E-TANDEM
One of OWI’s aims is to develop technically mature, low-greenhouse gas and low-emission solutions for the heat generation and mobility of tomorrow. One of the main competences of OWI is analyzing novel liquid fuels both by using laboratory methods, as well as developing new test rigs for compatibility testing of conventional and alternate with current application technologies and materials. The fuel developed in the E-Tandem project is an interesting novel fuel type with its own challenges regarding the solubility properties and oxygenate character.
Involvement in E-TANDEM
OWI leads WP 4 and is involved in testing the novel fuel. Chemical and physical properties of the novel fuels will be investigated at OWI and compared to current standards. Material testing regarding corrosion in metals and swelling in polymer materials is also part of OWIs tasks.
“The E-Tandem project is expected to provide a new alternative fuel which combines the advantages of liquid fuels with renewability.”
